Dear President Trump,
We write as committed America First leaders to thank you for considering an Executive Order to vet potentially dangerous frontier artificial intelligence (AI) models before they are released.
America under your leadership has led the world through strength and wisdom, not recklessness. We urge you to continue with this, and apply that principle to artificial intelligence, taking decisive action to ensure that the most powerful AI systems in the world are properly vetted before they can threaten our national security, our children, American workers and the American way of life.
Thanks to your leadership, Americans know that "America First" means putting the security, liberty, and greatness of the American people ahead of elite corporate and globalist interests.
Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly and now extends far beyond simple chatbots used for homework help or internet searches. Frontier AI systems are becoming increasingly powerful and could pose serious risks to cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, financial systems, election integrity, biosecurity, and even our military and national defense capabilities if deployed recklessly or without proper safeguards.
America should lead the world in AI innovation. But America must also lead with strength, responsibility, and common sense, setting the rules that the rest of the world follows.
No private corporation should have unilateral authority to deploy technologies that could profoundly impact the national security and stability of the United States without meaningful evaluation and safeguards. Yet today, some of the world's largest AI companies are operating with little accountability while racing to build increasingly powerful systems. Some have openly discussed selling their most powerful technologies abroad, including to nations that do not share our values or our interests. We know that we cannot trust these companies to police themselves.
Without safeguards, dangerous AI systems could be released publicly, or used by the companies themselves, with unacceptably high levels of risk. We have already seen AI used to conduct sophisticated cyberattacks, generate targeted disinformation, and automate fraud at scale. The next generation of frontier models poses risks of a fundamentally different magnitude. These systems could be exploited by criminals, terrorists, foreign adversaries, or other actors domestic and foreign seeking to destabilize the United States, and undermine our military, our elections, our economy and our critical infrastructure.
We already evaluate dangerous technologies in sectors that impact public safety and national security. Nuclear materials are strictly controlled. Aviation systems undergo rigorous certification. The most powerful AI systems, which can now, or soon will be able to, assist in designing bioweapons, breaking into critical infrastructure, or manipulating financial markets, should be treated with the same seriousness and care.
For this reason, we support proposed policies that require mandatory testing, evaluation, vetting, and government approval of potentially dangerous frontier AI systems before they are deployed. This is the sort of strong, principled, and pragmatic leadership you have shown throughout your presidency.
Now is the time for decisive action to ensure that innovation serves the American people, not the other way around and to ensure our constitutional rights and liberties are protected from recklessness. We applaud you for considering it.
America did not become the greatest nation in the world by allowing unelected elites to experiment on the public without safeguards or accountability. America First means American strength, American security, and the protection of our people first.
You have led in making this nation great many times before. We urge you to lead once again.
Sincerely,
The undersigned coalition — see signatories.
